Carol Ann Sutherland is a Scottish-born painter, printmaker and draughtsperson based in Jersey.
A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, she has developed an evolving visual narrative that has threaded through her work since the 1970s.
Recurring figures - horses, angels, castles, rivers, boats and chessboards - inhabit an imagined landscape that functions as both allegory and autobiography. The characters converse across canvases in a quietly enigmatic way, revealing fragments of a world at once whimsical and reflective.
Carol Ann Sutherland has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, including the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy and CCA Galleries International. Her work is held in public collections including the McNay Art Museum, Texas.

Within This World XIV is the fourteenth instalment in a series of exhibitions that has unfolded over several decades. New paintings and relief works continue an ongoing narrative in which imagined landscapes, symbolic figures and fragments of text reveal a quietly unfolding story.
